Caterpillars and flowers. . . . .

Wow! So it's been a while since I was here and showing y'all what I've been up to!!  Looking after a poorly son and then kinda being poorly myself has meant no blogging for a day or two (ok, so it's been longer than that, but I'm here now, right!)

So, last week I was asked to create two very special cakes, one for a lovely little lad who was turning one and the other for a wonderful woman who was turning 40!  Gotta love the variety in my line of work :)

The first birthday cake was so much fun! So bright and engaging (and apparently too good to cut, but I'm sure it was scoffed in no time!)  I was totally delighted with how the cake turned out and the cupcakes were just adorable!!  Here's how it all looked. . . . . . .

The 40th birthday cake was one of my, almost 'signature', Giant Cupcake with buttercream 'rosette' frosting surrounded by a combination of piped and marshmallow 'chrysanthemums' :)  This cake was just soooo pretty and apparently was demolished in the record time of 30 minutes. . . . .anyone think they can beat that time? It's a LOOOOOOOT of cake!

So, that was last week's offerings - a little late, but we made it here at last!!

This weekend is full of flowers - CUPCAKE FLOWERS - arranged in beautiful bouquets - all ready to gift to some lucky ladies for Mother's Day!

Happy Caking

This is what I'd like to be doing in 5 yrs time. . . . .

I was having a 'planning' conversation with a friend a few weeks ago.  I was talking her through a design for her son's Christening when out popped the question 'Do you want your invitations to co-ordinate with your cake?' - then it hit me (WOW) - "complete party packages"!   From invites, thank yous, bunting and sweet treats galore, all co-ordinating in whatever theme we come up with!  Only problem being I'm not sure about the printing of invites (I'm pretty ok with the graphic design side of things) and all the cute little labels I would need!  So I shelved the idea and forgot all about it. . . . . until today!!

THIS is what I want to be doing. . . . . THIS is what I want to be designing. . . . It's just so much more than baking cupcakes, it's about creating an amazing, fun, quirky party table for YOUR party - no matter what the occasion!  I'm determined to solve my 'printing issues' and really want to start investigating how to bring this all together!  I'm just in love with it! Still not sure how I came across it, but I found these images and my wee heart just leapt inside me! As I'm new to blogging I'm sure I need to credit the origianl source, I found these on the blog hello naomi and they are awesome!

Simply gorgeous! Check out those details and the cake!! AMAZING!!

My dream starts here. .  . . .

Coming up . . . . .

Happy Tuesday morning, you wonderful 'bloggites'!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend and that the start of a new working week is full of wonderful and exciting opportunities that we're all gonna grab with both hands! (Yeah, I should listen to my own advice, as I've had a poorly 6 yr old for 2 days and today am needing matchsticks to keep my eyes open!)

This week I'm very honoured to have 2 orders for 2 people who are celebrating very special birthdays - a lovely little man who's celebrating his 1st birthday and a lovely lady who will be celebrating her 40th!  I also have a lovely order for my floral inspired cupcakes, a gift from a Mum to her daughter who's coming home to visit for a wee while (what a fantastic gift!).  So, there should be lots of photos to post by Friday evening of all the orders from the week!

NEXT week, however, things will be in floral overdrive as the Mother's Day 'Cupcake Bouquets' will be being created and making a lot of Mummies very, very happy (I hope!)  They're something I've been wanting to try for a wee while and this seems the perfect opportunity to launch them!

What do you think? Cute, aren't they?

Till laters,

Change of Scenery. . . . .

Woo Hoo. . . . . . !

Made it out of the kitchen today and had a nice change of scenery watching my wee sister partake in a bit of equine fun!  So me and my trusty Canon headed off into the countryside, to a nice big indoor arena to 'shoot' some photos for her.
Now, I LOVE my camera and I have a growing passion for photography, but so far, most of my subjects (i.e. my cakes!) are relatively stationery. . . . so it was nice to be stretched and figure out how to snap something that moves - and moves FAST!
So, here's some of the shots that developed in the 'darkroom' (AKA Photoshop) this evening. . . .

Had a fab day! Thanks to J for asking me to come along and well done to Brody for clearing (most of) his rounds!!  Looking forward to many more opportunities to photograph you both, you're a cracking wee team xx

The weekend's 'workings' . . . .

Wow, it's been a busy few days since St. Patrick's day!  Was fantastic to see lots of smiling faces leaving with their cakes and be able to spend some time with the family.

So, up first was 30 cutey fairy cakes for a little lady who was celebrating her 6th birthday with lots of other little ladies (although they looked more like wee princesses from the photos I've seen!)  The brief for this one was simple 'pink & girly' - which for some 'cupcakers' would be a sinch, but I'm not the average 'caker' and I'm certainly not a 'girly girl'.  So it was lots of pink buttercream, pink sprinkles and little wafer daisies galore!  They did look amazingly cute when I seen them altogether :)  What do you think?

The next wee project was to design and create a 'Naming Day' cake for Alfie, the son of an old school friend (well, not that she's old. . . . . . I just met her a long time ago, sorry A!).  Anyway. . . just before she asked me, I'd come across some amazing 'cake bunting' decorations and being a 'craft-a-holic' I really wanted to try it out, but needed something to use it on! So I jumped at the chance to introduce the idea and it went down a treat - BONUS!  So I set about gathering pieces of co-ordinating fabrics, papers and found super cute polka dot buttons and blue & white twine, just to set it off!
The brief for the cupcakes were 'little blue feet' and 'stars' - so simple, super effective!!

The only trouble we had was figuring out how best to display everything - then I discovered a great tutorial on Cake Journal on how to make your own cake/cupcake stand - problem solved :D

I'm totally in love with this cake, I didn't want it to leave . . . . hope you share the love for it!

Close up of the handmade 'cake bunting' - go ahead, give it a try!

Pretty. . . . right?

This week ended on yet another 'pink note' with a request for some pink champagne 'cup-tails' (cross between a cupcake and a cocktail) for a Hen party!  I LOVE making these wee cupcakes, as they have an added surprise of a champagne soaked strawberry sunk into the centre of them :)   As these were for a bride-to-be, I decided to cut little hearts from pink sugarpaste to decorate the cakes, but felt that they just didn't say 'Hen' party - and yes, I'm sure there are plenty of, erm, 'items' I could have used to decorate them, but I was aware that there would be kiddies at this gathering.  . . . . . so how could I give them the A.C.B. touch??  About 15 minutes before they were due to be collected it hit me - a bespoke cupcake topper for the 'hen'! PERFECT!!  A few snips of brown paper and come cream netting, here's what I came up with! Just uber cute ( and yes, I say so myself!)

Wow, I know this is a long post, but I guess that's how my posts will be! So well done if you managed to get through it all and thanks for sticking with it!!

Thoroughly looking forward to working on a few new designs at the end of next week, till then. . .

Happy Caking!

Happy St Patricks Day ( a day early!)

So, I had the great honour of being asked to design a 'St Patricks' themed birthday cake for a birthday boy who'll be celebrating on the day itself.

This was such a fun cake to work on (even if my hands resembled those of the 'Incredible Hulk' by the time I had finished it!) 3 layers of yummy chocolate cake with even scrummier chocolate fudge icing between each layer. . . yum, yum, yum!

Happy caking,

Welcome!

Good Morning!

So. . . . I'm finally going to 'blog' about the little happenings and goings on in my kitchen, or at least 'attempt' to blog as things can get particularly busy around here!

This little venture kicked off in August of 2010, when I was approached by a friend to make a 'birthday cake' for her daughter who was turning 2.  Up to that point I was simply trying different cupcake ideas for friends and family who'd come to visit and never in a million years thought I'd end up doing what I am!

The blog will be an outlet for me to show you what's a goin' on in the Angel Cake Bakery kitchen!  From time to time I'll probably discuss inspirational ideas that are floating around my head and hope that they may inspire YOU!

This weeks workings will include some St Patrick's day fun, bunting galore and some pink champagne girliness - gonna be a great week!  I hope yours is too :)
